Stump grinding & surface root cleanup

Sick of mowing around it?
Grind the stump out.

A leftover stump is a mowing obstacle, a tripping hazard and an invitation to pests. We grind it below grade and leave usable ground behind.

Why the stump should go

A stump doesn't rot away on any schedule you'd want to wait for. In the meantime it causes a few problems of its own.

  • You mow around it every week. And trim around it. And catch the mower deck on it at least once a season.
  • Somebody trips on it. A root flare sitting an inch above the lawn is easy to miss, especially after dark.
  • Pests move in. A rotting stump is food and shelter for insects, and it's usually not far from the house.
  • You can't plant over it. Nothing goes in that spot, grass or a new tree, until the stump and the flare are gone.

How Ron's grinds a stump

Grinding removes the stump below grade with far less disruption than digging it out. Most stump jobs are finished in a few hours, and often in the same visit as a removal if you bundle them.

1

Utility and irrigation check

Before the machine starts, we check around the stump for lines and sprinkler heads.

2

Below-grade grinding

Typically 6 to 12 inches down so you can resod, replant or landscape over it. Planting a new tree in the same spot? We grind deeper.

3

Surface root cleanup

Protruding root flares ground flush so the lawn reads level.

4

Backfill and tidy

Grindings raked back in or hauled out, your call. Once we backfill with topsoil, grass can go in right away.
